The 30th Annual Columbus Can Care-A-Van was held on Tuesday, June 6th. The Vacation Bible School kids meeting at First UMC made a delivery and were featured in  the Columbus Telegram and on Columbus News

Finishing With Grace
Come join us on Thursday, June 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Speakers include Al Vyhnalek talking about “Protecting & Distributing Your Assets,” Charlotte Griffith talking about “Communicating Your Plans,” and Rev. Come & Celebrate! One Year Anniversary
On the weekend of June 24th and 25th, our church services will be CELEBRATING the One-Year “Birthday” of our Outreach Center! First UMC purchased the facility located at 3602 16th Street on May 31, 2016. Last June, church family members were cleaning, scrubbing, painting, organizing & moving into the facility to serve as our Outreach Center that hosts many church and community programs and ministries! Please join us for birthday “cupcakes” served in the Gathering Area following worship services, and there will also be a special Ignite service to lift up our mission & ministry! Plan
to attend one of our four worship services to celebrate how the Spirit has been guiding and leading our congregation and community this past year!
Confirmation Class 2017
Registration for Confirmation Class 2017 has begun for next     year’s 8th & 9th graders.
1) Register student w/ Rev. Cindi at the Church Office.
2) Sign-up for Confirmation Camp (choose one; #1 preferred) #1: June 26-29  OR  #2: July 5-8 at Camp Fontanelle.
3) Choose mentor – must be a church member (may be family) who will participate alongside student through confirmation journey.
There will be additional retreats this summer and fall to complete confirmation requirements. Talk to Rev. Cindi for more info.

Craft Club
If you are interested in participating in a monthly “Scrap and/or Scan” please let Rev. Cindi know. If you would like to be added to the Facebook page, look up “first umc Craft Club” or talk to the office for more information. Craft Club is a fellowship group of the Church of members & friends who enjoy arts & crafts. They will be meeting on the lower level of the Outreach Center.
 Blood Drive

Thanks all who donated at the May 1st Blood Drive.  A record 44 units were collected! Next drive will be June 26th. Nick Borgman will be hosting this drive and will have the opportunity to win a college scholarship and earn a gift card. The Leaders Save Lives Program is sponsored by the American Red Cross.
Youth Mission Trip
To Colorado Springs July 16-23, 2017. Contact Sarah Borgman for details or to sign up.

NUMB Bike Ride
June 25th – 28th
Collecting Donations of nuts, Breads (zucchini, pumpkin, banana, etc), Granola bars, peanut butter, beef jerky, and Homemade cookies to keep our riders going. Bring your donations to the church office by June 23rd.

Summer Youth Group
Wednesdays at the Outreach Center from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. for those going into Grades 5 - 12. Special locations will be noted on the Youth  Bulletin  Board.

You are invited to an Awakening of the Spirit of God - at Pentecost, through spiritual gifts, through creation - and even in the valley of the dry bones! May the Spirit meet you exactly where you are and bring you exactly what you need! Join us Sunday morning at 8:00 & 10:30.

Alternative Praise Gathering
Come as you are and join us every Sunday for a casual evening together at the Outreach Center, 3602 16th Street. It all begins at 5:30 with a light supper followed at 6:00 with music and words to Ignite the Spirit in you!

At a Special Church Conference on Monday, May 22, First United Methodist Church voted to move forward with the Stained Glass Windows Restoration Project. Working with Kruse Stained Glass of Hartington, Nebraska, the Board of Trustees hopes to begin the project in the spring of 2018. The Finance Committee will be working on a Capital Campaign to raise $170,000 for this project. In addition, educational materials are being put together. Watch for more details about how you can help to preserve the beautiful stained glass windows in our church.

Alzheimer’s Association Platte County Education Sessions – All sessions meet from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Columbus YMCA (3912 38th Street). June 22nd session will go over traveling with Dementia. Come and learn about detection, causes, risk factors, stages and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Along with how to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia.
Fill the Truck – The Columbus Rescue Mission will be holding their annual Fill The Truck project on June 29th, 30th, and July 1st at the Walmart parking lot in Columbus. The Living Water Rescue Mission will have their Fill The Truck days on June 30th and July 1st at the Walmart parking lot in York. We wish to thank Walmart for working with us on this important project each summer. Please support this cause as we collect food and financial donations for the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission. More information will be coming in the May and June electronic newsletters.
Thrive Cancer Rehabilitation Care – Columbus Community Hospital’s Thrive Cancer Rehabilitation Care is here to help cancer survivors physically and emotionally heal from the side effects of treatment so they can recover more quickly and more completely than they would otherwise. A complimentary one-on-one consultation is provided in order to guide your survivorship care plan help you achieve your goals and recover the things that cancer and its treatment may have taken away. Learning Frontiers: PreK to Grade 3 – Help us learn more about early learning and development.  Do you have a child starting kindergarten in the fall who is not currently enrolled in preschool?  If so you may be eligible to participate in an exciting study!  Researchers at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) are partnering with your community’s school district to learn about the factors that promote early learning and support children’s development across transitions into Kindergarten through Grade 3.  Participating families can receive up to $250.00.  To take part in the Early Learning Network research study, or for more information, visit our website. or contact Amanda Witte at (402) 472-2490 or
