Neighborhood Block Party
We will host a Block Party at  our Outreach Center on Sunday, September 24th from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Food Vendors, Inflatables, Dunk Tank, Games, Music, and Outdoor Ignite Worship Service. We are in need of a few items for this year’s block party including non-plug in generators, carnival games, plastic kiddy pool and rubber ducks. If you have any of these items the church can use for the night, please contact Sarah Borgman.  

Connections Schedule
Sunday, August 20th is Columbus Days. We will meet in Chapel Parlor following church and walk over to Frankfort Square, buy our lunch and eat at a picnic table together. (If it’s really hot, we will go to Dusters). On Sunday, September 17th at 12:00 noon, we will be on Marilyn Zehring’s deck; chicken and dessert will be furnished bring a vegetable or salad.

Young Adult Bible Study
Rev. Seong is leading a new bible study “Purpose Driven Life, What on Earth am I here for” by Rick Warren. They meet every other Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Rev. Seong Lee’s house (128 South Rose Ln). The meeting dates are August 15, 29 and September 12.
Care Team
Care Team needs a few more Caring People to serve in a variety of ways: provide transportation to & from worship on the weekends and/or to medical appointments; make hospital visits and/or visits to homebound members; help to coordinate health & wellness activities. Care 101, 202 & 303 trainings available as scheduled. Talk to Rev. Cindi, Dee Kinkaid and/or Martha Davidson for more info.
Columbus Days
Along with our 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Worship Services we will also be having a Christian Praise Service at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 20th in Frankfort Square. Please come and invite your friends.
Columbus Days Parade
The Evangelism committee is looking for volunteers to walk or ride the First UMC float in the Columbus Days Parade on August 20th. Contact Kristi Nelson or Denise Krycl with questions, or just show up. They will meet in the NPPD parking lot at 2:45 p.m.

The August sermon series "Worn Yet Wonderful" will allow us to embrace images of things that may be showing signs of wear but also how they have been repurposed to show their beauty. We’ll also hear passages that remind us that God has a purpose and a plan for our lives too! Join us Saturday night at 6:00 or Sunday morning at 8:00 & 10:30.

Alternative Praise Gathering
Come as you are and join us every Sunday for a casual evening together at the Outreach Center, 3602 16th Street. It all begins at 6:00 with music and words to Ignite the Spirit in you followed by refreshments and fellowship.

At a Special Church Conference on Monday, May 22, First United Methodist Church voted to move forward with the Stained Glass Windows Restoration Project. Working with Kruse Stained Glass of Hartington, Nebraska, the Board of Trustees hopes to begin the project in the spring of 2018. The Finance Committee will be working on a Capital Campaign to raise $170,000 for this project. In addition, educational materials are being put together. Watch for more details about how you can help to preserve the beautiful stained glass windows in our church.



UMW – The Great Plains UMW Annual Conference is right in our backyard on September 29-30, 2017 at First UMC, 309 East 7th Street, York, Nebraska. Come join this gathering of women as we share fellowship, provide mission, and gain information focused on women, youth and children. You can register online at Great Plains

Celebrity Bowl –A – Rama – Build houses by bowling down pins! On Sunday, September 10th from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Westbrook Lanes, grab your buddies for an afternoon of bowling fun to support Habitat for Humanity of Columbus, Nebraska. $350 per team of 5 players. 3 games of 9 pin no tap, hot beef dinner, pin prizes, and split the pot. Mission Academy – Come together with mission-minded people to discuss connecting with your neighbors in disaster response, emotional and spiritual care, spiritual growth in mission, serving cross culturally with grace, and more. September 10 -13 in Aurora, Nebraska.
Healthy Lifestyle Class – Session topics include: Carbohydrate counting, fat and calories, weight loss, importance of increasing physical activity, setting goals for success, and healthy snacks. Session is on October 24 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Columbus Wellness Center Multipurpose Room. The class is free to the public. To register call 402-564-4462 or go to
Learning Frontiers: PreK to Grade 3 – Help us learn more about early learning and development.  Do you have a child starting kindergarten in the fall who is not currently enrolled in preschool?  If so you may be eligible to participate in an exciting study!  Researchers at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) are partnering with your community’s school district to learn about the factors that promote early learning and support children’s development across transitions into Kindergarten through Grade 3.  Participating families can receive up to $250.00.  To take part in the Early Learning Network research study, or for more information, visit our website. or contact Amanda Witte at (402) 472-2490 or
